We Love our Forest Park Elementary Staff

Next week we will be celebrating how wonderful our school's staff members during National PTA Staff Appreciation week.

Here are some ways we will show our staff how important they are to FPE students and families:

• Monday:  Mr. C's lunch prepared for all staff members
• Tuesday:  Flower Day to share spring blooms for each teacher and staff member
• Wednesday:  Cinco de Mayo staff luncheon prepared by parent volunteers and the PTA
• Thursday:  Starbucks to start the day off right
• Friday:  Friday Surprise from all the

Don't forget about writing a note to your teacher and staff member thanking them for all their hard work at the school.  Folders will be lining the main hallway outside the office.  Show them you care by sharing a few words of gratitude!

Please send 1-3 flowers for your teacher and designated staff member to school on Tuesday, May 4th.  Room parents will be arranging bouquets for them to enjoy all week.

Forest Park PTA is also collecting $1 each ($2 total) for your teacher and staff member for help with their surprise at the end of the week.  Please send money in an envelope with "Staff Appreciation" written on it. You may turn it in to your teacher or the front office.

Lincoln Youth Football - Registration Ends May 15

Registration for Lincoln Youth Football is now open.  To avoid late fees, players must register before May 15th at http://lincolnyouthfootball.info.

TV and Screen Turnoff Week - April 19th-25th

What can we do when we turn off the TV and let the screens stay dark?  The possibilities are endless.  Play with friends,go for a  walk, read a book or spend time with your family.  Turning off our screens gives us time to think, read, create and do things we may seldom have time for.  This allows us to connect with our families and engage with our communities.

Here are some activities sponsored by the PTA. 

• Monday:  Jump Rope for Your Heart  -  3:30pm-4:30pm (FPE Playground)
  Parent must accompany children participating
• Tuesday:  Family Writing Night  -  6:30pm-7:30pm (FPE cafeteria, gym and library)
• Wednesday:  School Clean-up-  2:30pm-3:30pm (Front flower beds)
• Thursday:  Earth Day - Save Energy for an Hour Game Night  -  4:00pm-6:00pm (Starbucks and FH Commercial Center)
• Friday:  TGIF - Take a walk in the neighborhood after school

East/West Sylvan Parent Night - April 15th, 2010 6:00pm-9:00pm

Three great speakers from the Sheriff's Office, FBI and Portland Public Schools will talk about dangerous and risky situations facing our children and how to stay informed. Topics are detailed below, come to West Sylvan Middle School Library to hear more.  Light dinner will be provided, there will be a separate homework area for kids.

Portland has a large underage trafficking problem, we ranked second nationally in a FBI sting last year.  Boys and girls age 12-15 are the prime target of pimps.  Learn about this dangerous situation and how to keep children safe.

Jane Brillhard from the FBI
Ms. Brillhart is a FBI agent and West Sylvan parent.  She will address the dangers, as well as the positive aspects, of the internet for our kids.  Hear of ways to stay in touch with your child's internet activity.

PPS Presentation:  "Why Do They Act That Way?"
Find out about adolescent brain development, how to best communicate with your kids and strategies for keeping them out of risky situations.

5th Grade Legacy Used Book Fair

Donate those used books for the Used Book Fair by April 14th, then come and look for a "new" book to read.  The used book fair will be in the gym the following days:

Forest Park PTA General Meeting - Wednesday, April 7th 6:15pm-8:00pm

Agenda for the general meeting includes information from Kevin Crotchett on school staffing for the 2010/2011 school year as well as updates from PTA Board/Committee Chairs on activities occurring at the school.
