Cell Phones, Ipods, Electronics Oh My!
Parents please help us remind our students that cell phones, ipods, and other devices are not for school use.  While we do not recommend that they be brought to school, we do recognize the occasion when they are.  We ask that these devices remain in the backpack from school start to school end and are not taken out until children are off school grounds.  In part this assists in safety and with exiting congestion.  Children taking out cell phones to make after school arrangements are very often distracted as they walk across cross walks, near moving cars or through a crowd of 500 other children and adults.  Please help us by reminding your children to not bring these devices to school or by respecting the request to keep them out of site while at school.  Thank you.

PTA Legislative Update:

There are 2 House bills that could be coming up for a vote in the house, and then possibly the senate, that can help protect our children against toxic chemicals in toys and other products.  If you would like to show your support, you can contact your state representatives at rep.mitchgreenlick@state.or.us or sen.suzannebonamici@state.or.us

Mitch Greenlick, your state representative, will be jointly hosting two town hall meetings with your state Senator, Suzanne Bonamici. 
They will be on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00am at the Good Samaritan Hospital Auditorium (NW. 22nd between NW. Lovejoy and Marshall)
and at 7:00 pm on March 17 at the St. Vincent Hospital classroom in the East Pavilion (with Rep. Chris Harker).

Lincoln H.S. Cheer leading Camp
The Lincoln Cheerleaders have rescheduled their 1-day mini cheer camp on in-service day, Friday, April 10th, originally rescheduled for March 6th.  Camp will be held in the lower gym at West Sylvan Middle School. K-8 Girls and boys are welcome. Registration forms are in school offices, or download here, Mini Cheer Registration. The cost is $50 per day and includes a T-shirt. Emailed to the community email list and sent home with the children on Thursday was a letter from Kevin regarding the district's plan for our lost days due to snow and the water main break.  That letter is attached here as well.

Each 5th grader has created an individual art project to be presented to their families. This art presentation is the Fifth Grade Students' creative contribution to the 2009 Forest Park Auction. By doing this, every 5th grade family can now leave Forest Park with their child’s auction art project. The children's masterpieces will be displayed at the school on the night of February 17th. A donation to the Forest Park Foundation in honor of the Class of 2009 would be greatly appreciated.

Lost Days Recovery Plan

I know many of you are worried about lost school days. The staff and I share the concern. I know there are many conversations leading to speculation. Many of you have heard on the news or read in the paper that PPS has made a decision. Unfortunately, that information was released to the press prior to a west-side plan being fully worked out. The full announcement and plan for our 5 missed days in December and two missed this week has yet to be released. These decisions are made at the district level in cooperation with our area director, Beverly Pruitt and of course Superintendent Carole Smith. As decisions are made I will inform you as soon as possible.

Site Council assesses and measures our achievement and develops our school improvement plan along side the staff. The school improvement plan determines our goals, how progress will be measured and corrections/changes/additions to the program needed to strengthen our children's elementary experience and academic growth.
