Parent Input for Student Placement

It is that time of the year when we encourage parents who would like to provide input into their child's placement for the 2010-11 school year to do so using the Parent Input for Student Placement form. Please read the input form completely before commenting on the three questions.  All parent input must be turned in by May 28th for timely consideration.  Student placement begins in June and continues throughout the summer months.

Important Community Meeting Thursday, 6:30pm

Earlier this week I shared with the community that this will be my last year at Forest Park Elementary. This Thursday beginning at 6:30 you are invited to come and talk with Toni Hunter, Deputy Superintendent and Cynthia Gilliam, Director of Administrative Hiring and Performance Management about the process for finding Forest Park’s next principal.  During this meeting, Toni and Cynthia would like to hear from you about the characteristics and qualities that you need in your next principal.  Please come and be apart of this important process.

Please also consider completing this survey.  

Students are invited to participate by completing this student survey.

It is possible that this principal vacancy will go to an open hiring process.  In that case a school based committee of teachers, staff, and parents will be formed.  You can self-nominate yourself to be on this committee by completing this form.  You will also need to complete the confidentiality agreement attached here.

I look forward to completing the current school year with all the children and families at Forest Park. I will also be visiting classrooms this Friday to share with them that I look forward to all the events this spring and will not be leaving Forest Park until June 30, 2010.

Run-for-the-Arts Friday the 16th!

Don't forget that next Friday is our schedule date for the Run for the Arts run.  Last week students returned home with the pledge sheets which should be brought back to school on the 16th.

100% of the funds raised during our Run for the Arts drive stay her at Forest Park and allow us to bring additional art experiences to school.  Just this year our students have had the experience of drumming with Tiako, Dancing with Rebecca Martinez, learning the art quilt patterns, mask making, and more. Next year, with outlined staffing cuts in the music program, we will look to our Run for the Arts funding to help us bring even more performing and visual arts quests to Forest Park.

PTA General Meeting

Please join your PTA board for a general PTA meeting tomorrow night, Wednesday at 6:15pm in Forest Park's upstairs common space. Come and hear an update from your PTA committee chairs in our efforts to bring programs, enrichment, and support to the children at Forest Park.

Following the PTA portion of the meeting, I will present our staffing report for 2010/11 to include district and foundation funding, program details, and our projected enrollment for next fall.

New phone system at Forest Park

 Just last week I sent home a flier talking about the new phone system that has recently been installed at Forest Park.  This new system brings with it voicemail and out-going phone lines to every classroom, every teacher and staff member.  The flier is attached here.

Portland Public Schools is gathering parent feedback on the phone system initiative via a pre and post survey.  The first survey can be found by following this link.  We would greatly appreciate your time completing this survey.  It should take about 5 minutes.  In a few weeks, a second survey will be sent out.  Thank you!
