Dear grade three parents,
We are happy to announce our first field trip! All three third grade classes will visit the Japanese Garden and the International Rose Test Gardens on October 2nd. This trip will support our social studies curriculum, which focuses on Portland. In addition, the visit will tie in to our study of Japanese culture and geography, as we re-read Hachiko Waits.
This trip is a terrific opportunity to get kids out into the community, and make learning more concrete. We plan to offer several meaningful field trips this year. Since transportantion costs can quickly burn up all of the Student Activity Funds that you have provided, we will try to plan all of our trips without the need to hire busses. We will transport the students via carpool, so we’ll need your help!
If you are willing to drive students to and from the field trip, thank you! The school district requires two forms to be completed and filed by anyone transporting students in a private car. The “background check” is valid for three years, so you may already have one on file; Pam and Kelly can check if you’re not sure. The “insurance information” form is only valid for one school year, so all drivers will need to fill out a new form this year. Forms will need to be in the office early next week in order to clear in time for October’s trip, but please consider submitting the paperwork now, even if you are hoping to volunteer for a trip later this year. Both forms are available in the office, or on the third grade team blog.
Please fill out the forms, sign and return them to school with your student. Specific details will be forthcoming, but plan on about a three-hour comittment. Again, the third grade team appreciates your help in providing this opportunity for the students, and we look forward to your company on the trip!
